The PrydeBar® Story For every job, there is supposedly the right tool. Yet it seems that when it comes to hammers, I have always found myself reaching for a “hammer of choice” depending on the job”. – Clay Smith
One day I took a few minutes to count the number of hammers I seem to have collected over the years, and to my surprise I owned about 20 different hammers. I consider myself a do-it-yourself kind of guy, but, 20 hammers seemed to be a little over the top. So I took inventory, and in most cases the slight variations in the hammer, head type, head weight, angle, made perfect sense for the jobs that I had previously undertook. So there was no one right hammer for all jobs….
In my spare time, I like to tinker. So I looked at this mess of hammers and made a list of not only their uses but similarities, and other tools that they were used in association with. The end result was an idea for a single hammer that met a majority of the task requirements that previously required my hammer collection.
My thoughts….. on creating the perfect hammer
1. Given the hammer a good feel for large and small hands with an ergonomic grip, but not to fat so it can fit in my belt.
2. Make the head adjustable to 180 degrees, on most heads, creating multiple angels to get into tight places.
3. Allow the heads to be interchangeable, which changes the hammer function, weight and feel that is right for the job.
4. Make it strong, out of the hardest, forged steel, so it wound break, crack, or separate from the shaft.
5. Make it a bright color, so when I drop it off a roof, deck, or other project in dirt or grass, I can find it!
In addition….
I added a power bar system that allowed the hammer to be attached to a larger rod and weight. This allowed the Prydebar hammer, to act as a claw attached to a dent puller, which quickly and easily pulls most materials away from a structure without damage. Nails, screws, siding, hardwoods, and much more can all be reclaimed, reused, or even resold.
As you look at this tool remember this is not just a hammer. We are in the process of making up to 32 heads. Everything from block mason to ball peer hammers.
We also have a line of heads coming out for camping and the same handle as the hammer but you can attached an eight inch limb saw, hatchet, 8oz hammer head and a tent peg puller.
We would never forget you gardeners with an adjustable shovel ,digging prongs and a plugger that is so easy to change it is mind blowing!
You never know what heads PRYDEBAR(R) is coming out with, so stay in touch.
